The Auger Sharp, The Ice Fisherman's Tool Sharpener
Warning! Never sharpen any type of blade or tool that is attached to any type of power equipment. Remove blade and secure in a vise. Hold the AugerSharp® as shown in one hand with your fingers through the opening formed by the handle and the finger guard. Remember: The Sharpener moves while the blade being sharpened remains stationary.
Straddle the cutting edge of the blade being sharpened with the “v” shaped notch formed in the sharpener. Place the more visible carbide insert against the side of the blade that has a beveled edge. This should be the side that you want to sharpen. With the head of the AugerSharp® at about a 90 degree angle to the blade’s edge, press down lightly using thumb pressure to draw the AugerSharp® along the edge of the blade.
Work in one direction only, not back and forth! You will feel the tungsten carbide sharpener removing metal from the blade. Several passes may be required before the blade’s beveled edge conforms to the proper angle of AugerSharp®. Once that angle is achieved then two or three passes should be sufficient to give you a razor sharp edge. REMEMBER: LIGHT PRESSURE IS SUFFICIENT. Heavy pressure might cause you to lose control of the sharpener and possibly cause injury.
Occasionally, you may encounter a blade that is more awkward to sharpen from one side than the other. In such instances, you may wish to reverse the arrangement of the carbide sharpeners that are in your AugerSharp®. Refer to the diagram before attempting this.
To reverse the sharpeners, lay the AugerSharp® on its side with the screws up. Remove the screws and carefully separate the two halves of the handle as shown. Simply switch the carbides in their slots. The larger carbide can be moved straight across to the other slot. The smaller carbide will have to be flipped over before switching slots. If the finger guard becomes disengaged during this operation, secure both ends of it in the slots provided before reassembly.
CAUTION: DO NOT REASSEMBLE THE KNIFE SHARPENER WITHOUT THE FINGER GUARD. SERIOUS INJURY MAY RESULT. Reassemble the two halves of the handle and secure with the three screws.
Warning! Improper use of this sharpener and/or failure to follow instructions can result in injuries. Correct use is the easy and safe way, so always use exactly as instructed. Keep your fingers inside the fingerguard as shown above and your thumb securely on the thumb-rest indentation, as shown above.
Do not over tighten screws. The factory torque setting is about 5 inch pounds of pressure.Tighten them only until you feel increased resistance. If sharpener has any crack around the screw heads DO NOT USE IT. Either discard the sharpener or return it under the terms of the warranty. AugerSharp® is perfectly safe when used properly. LIFETIME WARRANTY: If for any reason AugerSharp® fails to give satisfactory results please RETURN THE ENTIRE SHARPENER postpaid along with $3.00 to cover postage and handling. It will be put in good working order and promptly returned to you. (Warranty for commercial use is limited to replacement of defective merchandise.)
